Businesses Working to Cut Electric Bills

A lot of business enterprises have large monthly electric bills. As these companies try to make a profit, one of their largest concerns is the ever increasing electricity costs of running their operations. In some areas of the country the prices of electricity has increased so much that its cost is now a critical determinant of whether the business makes a profit or not.

Coal is the source for most of the electricity generated in the U.S. Followed by petroleum and gas. With an increased emphasis on clean air and global warming, many businesses are looking for alternative ways of acquiring electricity and other energy for their office and factory needs. One of the alternatives that many companies are looking at is solar power.

Solar cells and panels are much more efficient than they used to be. They''ve become very efficient in producing electricity even on cloudy and overcast days. Before a company has solar panels installed however, they should do a cost/benefit analys is that compares their current electricity usage with the installation of solar panels plus projected maintenance costs. If the forecasted savings turn out to be enough, it''s a simple business decision to begin their transition to more eco-friendly energy usage. The end result could be significant savings on the company''s electricity bills.

California is a bell weather state in many respects. They are progressive in many areas, including energy. And being one of our largest states, many times changes that occur there slowly filter out to the rest of the country. One significant thing that has happened just recently is that a major California utility company has signed a deal to buy solar power to help drive down the prices for electricity. The decision, largely driven by a state deadline mandating the state to lessen it''s dependency on fossil fuel energies, has resulted in one of the hugest deals ever struck in the U.S. for solar power.

But solar power is not the on ly alternative to fossil fuels that are piquing the interests of "green" advocates. Some commercial businesses in New York City are seriously looking at wind power as a way to supply electricity to businesses. In fact, one of the major electricity suppliers, ConEdison, has seen its wind power sales increase over twenty five percent in the past couple of years. And even though that translates to less than two percent of ConEdison''s business customers, it does indicate that there is a definite market among businesses for alternative energy sources.

Although many refuse to face up to it, climate change is having drastic effects on our planet. It''s already begun to cause extreme and erratic weather patterns in certain parts of the globe.

Alternative fuels seems to be very near that tipping point where it''s about to become big business. Whether by customer demand, scientific advancement, government edict, or other reasons - after years of talking about solar power, wind power, and so on - this is maybe the era when all of these new technologies take shape and fly.

Understanding Alexa Ratings

Alexa ratings are a very handy and useful way to gauge how much traffic a site gets. The premise is very simple. Alexa dot com tries to measure how much traffic all sites get in relation to each other. For example, currently they rank Google as number one, followed by Yahoo, Facebook, and Youtube. But it doesn''t just rank the top sites, it gives ratings out into the millions as well. So every single site online is measured by Alexa, and ranked according to total traffic. The highest number I have ever seen is 22,000,000.

It appears to be very inaccurate for sites over about 5,000,000. For example, I have put many new sites online, and seen their initial Alexa ratings range anywhere from 8,000,000 to 22,000,000. So the numbers at this range are probably meaningless.

They state that it''s most accurate for the top 100,000 sites online. After that, while accuracy goes down, but it''s still a handy gauge. For example, there''s a big difference between a site that shows a 2 50,000 Alexa rating and one that shows 6,000,000!

By installing a tool like search status on your browser, you can instantly see the Alexa ratings (and other very cool information) on every site you ever visit. This gives you "x-ray vision" into the internet, and can help you avoid making mistakes. For example, I recently saw a site that advertised how I could get tons of traffic to my site for $97 a month. The sales page ranked about 4,500,000 on Alexa. I immediately knew it was a scam. Anything over a million gets very little traffic.

From my experience, the chart below gives a pretty good understanding of Alexa ratings:

Over 1,000,000: Very little traffic.

500,000-1,000,000 Not bad, maybe even making some money if it''s a commerce site.

250,000-500,000 A respectable amount of traffic

100,000-250,000 Good traffic. Sites in this range can be considered successful.

20,000-100,000 Extremely good. Alexa takes you very seriously once you are in the top 100, 000 of all sites online.

1,000-20,000 Ultra successful. Time to quit your day job.

1-1,000 Time to sell for millions, maybe billions.

You can learn about this and other cool internet "spy tools" at my blog below, just do a search for "x-ray vision."

In order to predict what the ebusiness market has in store for the future, take a look at today''s teenagers. Here are a few things you will see: Ipods loaded with music, cell phones that seem to be used for text messages more often than calls an d wireless laptops that can connect to the internet anywhere.

Of course, what you specifically are looking for are online marketing trends. Therefore, take a look at what today''s youth are doing on their computers. They are probably reading or writing blogs, watching and sending viral videos, checking out social networking sites, and even creating their own web pages.

Everything that these kids are doing is sending a message to ebusiness owners; it is simply up to you to listen. These kids are creating their own web experiences. Understanding The Principals Of Marketing On and Offline as Part of Your Strategic Plan

Every business needs a Strategic Plan and there are subtle things that you must accomplish in order to get your business marketed properly. Almost every product or service sold in the world today falls under the principals of marketing. Even people who are in the public eye all of the time have to find a way to market themselves. This is why it''s important for any new business or service provider to understand the principals of marketing. You cannot simply put your information up and expect people to come flocking to your product.

For example, one of the main ideas behind anything being represented is actually not how to push it onto people but, rather, what is the social responsibility behind a product or service? When people buy something, they want to know that they are buying into the greater good. Telling people who are looking at your product that their support of your company will som ehow affect more than just their pocket book leaves them with a good feeling. Customers who experience a good feeling with a business are almost sure to return.

Another important aspect of the principals of marketing is known as target marketing. This idea is that you do not merely put your business up somewhere and advertise in as many places as you can for as long as you have money is not really a good one.

Take the Super Bowl advertisements as a good way of demonstrating this. People who watch the Super Bowl are generally men and women who are interested in sporting activities. Therefore, placing a commercial for a doggy day care center during this time slot wouldn''t be worth it no matter how much exposure you got because it would have missed your target audience.

The audiences you should be aiming at for this kind of service are probably watching the puppy bowl on the Animal Planet channel. So while you wouldn''t have as many people watching your ad, you would have more people who were interested in your business learning about it through the commercial. Chances are that if they are watching this cuddly puppy-filled playtime, they have dogs of their own or are thinking of getting a dog. Your day care idea might appeal to them more so than the average sports fan watching the real Super Bowl.

You also need to consider the types of marketing distribution you are doing and how that matches up with your business. If you offer a service like the doggy day care, then advertising it in the next state would not do you any good because no one is going to drive that far to drop their dog off to board. You need to concentrate your marketing efforts where they will be the most effective for your company, and once you do that, you''ll be sure to see results. Remember, according on the principals of marketing, you should not spend time energy or money on something that reaches people outside your area of service.

Creating a Simple Business Plan Outline

Starting a home business or small business needs a business plan. You can put together a one page plan to give you a guide line and then you simply build on each step to give it more details. This will be the secret to creating a simple business plan outline.

Through my history and business start ups, I''ve found the best way to make sure your business will be successful is to create a simple business plan outline to guide you. You don''t need to write a dissertation but you can make it a page to 5 pages and have a trail for what you really need and where you are trying to go.

Everyone likes a step-by-step, so your business plan should pretty much be a step-by-step for you to follow and for potential investors to be more at ease about. This will help you know what the cost will be as you grow and how much you need to be charging customers when you open your doors.

This one page plan should include info about your powerhouse competitors. Because do not think your comp etitors are not going to take notice on the new guy or gal on the block and attempt to squash you right back to where you came from (traditional employment). You should want them around and I''ll even show you how to leverage your competition in future.

The key here is that the businesses that fail do so because they are not carefully planned out. Certainly avoid this simple mistake!

The one page simple business plan outline

Define your business objective in a sentence or two. If this is impossible for you or you find yourself saying, "it''s complicated," then think your business over and simplify the purpose. Think about what is the actual trade; what are you giving in exchange for money ultimately!

Are you needed? Do you have a market and why do you think they are your market and need your product or service.

In specific sentences write out where you''ll be in a year, three years, and five years!

How will you fund your business, your job, savings, loans, investors, family, and friends? Remember you need wood to keep the fire started and going.

Do you have equipment and all the things you need for daily operation?

Who is your target customer? Detail them. Teenagers who wear Nikes is a detailed type of customer.

Who are you big and small competitors? And what makes you different than your competitors?

Will you get office space or create office space at your home?

How much income will you need to bring home to survive and still provide for your family?

Once again, this is just a partial list, but there are enough questions here to give you a good idea of what you''ll be facing with a new business and the costs involved.

These are certainly a good start off list of things to consider and write in your business plan. Be it for a small business or a home business a basic outline will be crucial to your success.

Creating a simple business plan outline is essential to your successful home business. We all re member the famous quote that says, "Those who fail to plan, plan to fail."

Understanding E-Commerce and How it Relates to Your Strategic Business Plan

This introduction to e commerce will help you understand the different types of e commerce and how it related to your overall Strategic Plan. In addition I will discuss some advantages and drawbacks.

E commerce is all around us and has been for years, even long before the Internet. Starting in the 60s, businesses began sharing files and information with each other electronically, the very first form of e commerce. With the Internet, people gained the ability to purchase goods and services from businesses and each other, electronically. All these make up the face of e commerce today.

Business-to-business e commerce is the exchange and transfer of files and money between businesses, and as we''ve mentioned, this began in the 1960s. It took hold in the 80s, though, when one standard was set for electronic transactions that allowed all businesses to connect this way.

Consumer-to-consumer e commerce is when a person goes online and exchanges goods and services with another person. Ebay, for instance, is the original consumer-to-consumer site, with its auctions in which anyone can put up goods for sale to the site''s visitors.

Peer-to-peer e commerce began with Napster offering free music downloads via a file-sharing system. Now there are many more sites and computer programs that operate on that model, where users share files with each other.

And of course, business-to-consumer e commerce is simply when consumer purchase goods or services from businesses online. With the explosion of the Internet''s popularity in recent years, this type of e commerce has become a multi-billion dollar industry that''s only expected to keep growing.

An introduction to e commerce advantages includes the ability to comparison shop from the comforts of home. There''s no need to stand in line, fight crowds or pay for gas to purchase almost anything you can imagine these days. Websites cater to each shopper, often with customized recommendations of products based on the items the shopper browses, or previous purchases. It''s convenient and secure, and much less hassle than driving from store to store. No introduction to e commerce would be complete without listing the drawbacks. Some people are unsure about the idea of purchasing online, either because they''re simply unfamiliar with how to do it, or they don''t trust that their credit card information is truly safe. Often, if they''re not familiar with the store, they might doubt whether they''ll ever received the purchased items. And some people do enjoy the act of browsing through shops for a day with family or friends. Also, some types of stores do better online that others. Large purchases, where a consumer wants to be able to see and touch the items before purchase, like furniture, for instance, typically don''t see lots of online sales.

As the popularity of the Internet and socie ty''s growing familiarity with everything online increases, more people will become comfortable shopping online. As more people are given an introduction to e commerce by their friends, and even their children, sales will continue to rise.
